The Starting Line’s ‘Say It Like You Mean It’ Gets Vinyl Release
The 2002 album will be available for the first time on vinyl this month.
Say It Like You Mean It, the 2002 debut album from The Starting Line, is getting released on vinyl for the first time. Featuring newly remastered audio, the 1 LP set will officially hit shelves in October.
Released on the heels of their EP With Hopes Of Starting Over…, Say It Like You Mean It was the world’s proper introduction to the Starting Line’s sound. “The Best Of Me” proved to be the most commercially successful single from the album, charting in the United Kingdom and becoming certified Gold in the United States. That song in particular has come to be regarded as an essential part of the early 2000s pop-punk canon.
Part of Say It Like You Mean It’s notoriety comes from how young the band was when it came out; lead singer and bass guitarist Kenny Vasoli was barely 18 years old when the album arrived. “There was a couple months where we had to put the band on hold because I had to graduate high school and I was in my junior year so I had to double up on classes and take a few night courses and a couple summer sessions in order to get out,” Vasoli later told The Aquarian in 2005. “And it seemed like kids were pretty stoked on it because the things that I would write about would be the things they were going through in their life.”
The success of the album earned the band a spot on the Warped Tour, and touring even inspired some of the music on it. “There’s one song called “Given The Chance” – it’s basically about touring and how excited we are that all the kids actually took to us,” guitarist Mike Golla said in 2003.
