New Documentary Focused On Stevie Van Zandt Receives First Trailer
The movie will hit HBO on June 22.
Stevie Van Zandt is set to be the subject of a new documentary that will focus in on his life and career, from his long reign in the E Street Band to his celebrated role in The Sopranos.
Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple will premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival before heading to HBO on June 22.
The first trailer for the documentary, which was directed by Bill Teck, features appearances from Joan Jett, Paul McCartney, Bill Wyman, Bono, Eddie Vedder, Darlene Love, Peter Gabriel, and, as was expected, Bruce Springsteen.
“He was a great performer, great songwriter, great producer,” Springsteen said in the trailer. “We were so close, I just wanted him near me. He just became my rock n’ roll brother, instantly.”
A synopsis reads: “Featuring a wealth of never-before-seen footage, the film traces Van Zandt’s career as a producer, musician, songwriter, activist, actor, and more, from the clubs of Asbury Park, N.J. to arenas and stadiums, to the Bada Bing Club and the Underground Garage.”
It continues: “A portrait of a true renaissance man and passionate activist, Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple chronicles the artist throughout his remarkable career while illuminating the influential and enduring legacy he continues to have as a fervent champion of rock ‘n’ roll and social justice.”
Last we heard from the rock icon was in 2023 when he reunited his legendary Disciples of Soul for a very special live concert event. Little Steven and the Disciples Of Soul present Sorcery & Soulfire Live! At the Basie! took place on April 18, 2023 at the historic Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, New Jersey.
Little Steven and the Disciples Of Soul present Sorcery & Soulfire Live! At the Basie! saw Van Zandt and his 15-member band (featuring musical director Marc Ribler) reinvent songs from his two most recent LPs, 2017’s Soulfire and 2019’s acclaimed Summer of Sorcery, as well as fan favorites spanning his iconic career with updated live arrangements.
