Sheryl Crow Shares Contemplative New Single ‘Evolution’
The new track is also the title song from the celebrated singer-songwriter’s new album, due out on March 29.
Sheryl Crow returns with “Evolution,” a new single from her upcoming album of the same name, set for release on March 29. You can check out the contemplative track, featuring guitar from Rage Against The Machine/Prophets Of Rage man Tom Morello below.
The song conveys Crow’s uneasiness about artificial intelligence, its impact on the planet and humanity.
She said “As a mom, I want to leave a better world for my children, a healthier planet – is A.I. going to be a benevolent partner in these goals or not? It’s unsettling, and this song deals with those anxieties,” Crow said. “I wrote the song with just me on guitar and vocals, sent it to my producer, Mike [Elizondo] and said, ‘This is bigger than me, can you take a crack at it?’ ”
“Evolution” follows on from “Alarm Clock,” the album’s first single. Produced by the versatile Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Keith Urban, Turnstile), Evolution serves as Crow’s first album since 2019’s Threads. She previously alluded to Threads being her final album, making the announcement of Evolution last year all the more surprising.
“I started sending just a couple of demos to Mike, but the songs just kept flowing out of me and it was pretty obvious this was going to be an album,” Crow said in a statement. “This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record, thought there was no point to it. But this music comes from my soul. And I hope whoever hears this record can feel that.”
Crow concluded significant 2023 by being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November. In addition to releasing her 11th studio album in 2024, Crow will be joining P!NK on the “Summer Carnival Tour” from August to November. Visit the artist’s official website for further information.
