WELCOME 2 COLLEGROVE gets off to a fast start on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, later tonight (October 2), with 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne performing the album’s first advance single, “Presha,” available at all platforms now.
2 Chainz and Lil Wayne—both rap royalty in their own right—have been close friends and collaborators for nearly two decades, since Wayne first showed up in 2007 as a feature on the street classic “Duffle Bag Boy” by Playaz Circle. The single hit No.2 on the Billboard Rap chart, and Top 15 on the Hot 100.
Other collabs by Chainz and Wayne over the years have included the RIAA-certified platinum tracks “Rich As F__k” and Juicy J’s strip club anthem “Bandz a Make Her Dance.” ColleGrove is a portmanteau of Chainz’ hometown, College Park, Georgia, and Wayne’s hometown, Hollygrove, Louisiana.
At the end of September, Weezy returned with his new mixtape, Tha Fix Before Tha VI, out now via Young Money Records/Republic Records.
The mixtape is Wayne’s gift to fans, holding listeners over before his new project Tha Carter VI. The tape includes ten tracks, each emphasizing a different style from the chart-topping artist. The gift to fans includes a mix of club bangers and alternative tracks, in addition to surprise genre switch-ups like on “Tuxedo.”
The lead track “To The Bank” features a rapid-fire delivery from Wayne, while “Act Up” featuring Jon Batiste blends R&B and hip-hop. Tha Fix Before tha VI also features “Kat Food,” the single he shared earlier this month. The track’s ominous production underlines Wayne’s instantly recognizable delivery. He tears through the beat, dropping one quotable lyric after another, skills that have catapulted him to global stardom.
