The Libertines Announces New Album ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade,’ Share ‘Run, Run, Run’
The band will also hold two intimate shows in Margate in December
The Libertines has announced details of its first new album in nine years, All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade, and shared the first track from it in “Run, Run, Run.”
The new album follows 2015’s Anthems For Doomed Youth and is the band’s fourth studio record overall. It will be released on March 8, 2024, via EMI Records.
All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade was recorded at The Libertines’ Albion Rooms in Margate, Kent, and produced by Grammy-nominated producer Dimitri Tikovoï (The Horrors, Charli XCX, Becky Hill).
“Our first record was born out of panic and disbelief that we were actually allowed to be in a studio; the second was born of total strife and misery; the third was born of complexity,” singer and guitarist Carl Barât said. “This one feels like we were all actually in the same place, at the same speed, and we really connected.”
The band has previewed the upcoming record with its first single, “Run, Run Run.” “Run, run, run, boy/Faster than the past,” Barât sings. “Through the looking glass/If you want the night to last.”
The frontman explained: “It’s about being trapped and trying to escape your dismal life, a bit like the man in Bukowski’s ‘Post Office’. The worst thing for The Libertines would be to get stuck in a ‘Run-run-run’ rut, constantly trying to relive our past.”
The Libertines will celebrate its upcoming record with two special acoustic and electric live shows in Margate in December. The gigs will take place at the 500-capacity Lido on December 9 and 10. Anyone who pre-orders the album will be offered the chance to purchase tickets. VIP after-party tickets for the Albion Rooms and Justine’s nightclub will also be available.
The band opened the Albion Rooms in 2020. The building encompasses a hotel and studio and features ten rooms across five storeys. The project had been teased since 2016, with the band saying it was “inspired by the celluloid co-habitation antics of The Beatles and The Monkees.”
