Shires Shine At Apple Music Festival
Last night (21) saw the first country-themed evening at this year’s Apple Music Festival at the Roundhouse in London, where Carrie Underwood’s powerful headlining performance was supported by an impressive set from Decca’s British duo the Shires. Here are the two acts are pictured backstage together.
After becoming the first British country artists to enter the UK top ten with their debut album ‘Brave’ in March, the duo of Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes continue to go from strength to strength. The album was certified silver in August and the Shires recently performed at BBC Radio 2’s Festival In A Day in London’s Hyde Park, for a crowd of 55,000.
They start their next extensive UK tour on October 1, culminating at Shepherds Bush Empire on the 24th. In November, they have the further prestige of the opening slot — unheard of for a British country act in America — on a US tour by a leading country act, when they join Little Big Town’s six-date US itinerary.
At the Roundhouse for their Apple Music Festival debut, the duo were augmented by their own three-piece band, opening their 30-minute set with ‘Nashville Grey Skies’ and closing it with another favourite from the ‘Brave’ album, ‘Tonight.’ Rhodes and Earl later tweeted that they were “so proud to share the same stage” with Underwood.
