Reba McEntire To Perform ‘Somehow You Do’ From ‘Four Good Days’ At The Oscars
The song is nominated for Best Original Song at the ceremony.
Reba McEntire has joined the list of performers at this Sunday’s (27) 94th Academy Awards. The country superstar has been confirmed to perform the Diane Warren song “Somehow You Do,” from the film Four Good Days, which is nominated for Best Original Song.
That’s one of four compositions nominated in that category that will be performed on the show, which airs in the US on ABC at 8PM ET. As reported, Billie Eilish and Finneas will deliver “No Time to Die” from the James Bond movie of the same name. Beyoncé is to sing “Be Alive” from King Richard, and Sebastian Yatra will perform “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto.
Billboard has reported that Van Morrison, who wrote and performed the other shortlisted song in the category, “Down to Joy” from Belfast, was asked to perform it by the Academy, but he will not be present.
This is not McEntire’s first time as an Oscars performer: in 1991, she sang “I’m Checkin’ Out” from the movie Postcards From the Edge. The Shel Silverstein composition was nominated as Best Original Song that year, but lost to “Sooner Or Later (I Always Get My Man),” with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, from the film Dick Tracy.
McEntire’s new gospel album My Chains Are Gone will be released tomorrow in a CD/DVD package, featuring some of her favorite hymns. It includes guest appearances from Lauren Daigle, the Isaacs, Kelly Clarkson, and Trisha Yearwood, the latter two both singing with Reba on “Softly and Tenderly.”
The artist completed her Reba In Concert tour last weekend, with a show in Rosemont, IL on March 19. Ahead of that concert, McEntire told the Chicago Sun-Times of the tour: “To have this joy and fun and appreciation and thankfulness, it’s just overpowering. It’s more, sometimes, than I can comprehend.
“So, I always pray, ‘Holy Spirit, walk for me, talk for me, speak for me, sing for me. And if there’s anybody in the audience that needs you, let me be the conduit.’ I take that job very seriously.”
