The achievement comes nearly four years after Stapleton’s previous leader on that chart, “Broken Halos,” which had a week at the top in March 2018. You Should Probably Leave,” written by the artist with Chris DuBois and Ashley Gorley, is his fifth Top 10 airplay success over a span of nearly six years, since “Nobody To Blame” in April 2016.

The current track has been on the Hot Country Songs chart, which incorporates streaming and sales as well as airplay, for 45 weeks, this week holding at No.2. Its parent album Starting Over stands at No.9 in its 64th week on Top Country Albums, on which it opened at No.1 in November 2020, and is at No.2 on Americana/Folk Albums.

On the song’s release as a radio single last spring, Taste Of Country wrote: “While ‘You Should Probably Leave’ favors Stapleton’s bluesy, rootsy sensibilities over radio-ready country pop, you can also hear some of the hallmarks of a country hit: note the complex storytelling combined with simple, repetitive phrasing, plus a surprise twist towards the end in the lyrics.”

Stapleton’s guest appearance on Adele’s “Easy On Me” continues to attract country airplay, this week moving 39-38, while his cameo on Taylor Swift’s “I Bet You Think About Me” (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” climbs 45-44 among his three current airplay chart showings. Another track from Starting Over, “Cold,” climbs 43-42 on Hot Country Songs, and yet another, “Joy Of My Life,” is down 44-50.

The multi-award-winning country hero returns to his All-American Road Show on March 17 in Houston, with dates booked through to September. Guests on various dates include Margo Price, Yola, and Elle King. On April 23, Stapleton takes part in A Concert For Kentucky at Kroger Field with other guests including Willie Nelson & Family, Sheryl Crow, and Yola.
