Sam Fender Prominent In BRIT Awards Nominations With Adele, Dave, And More
The 42nd awards will take place at the O2 Arena in London on February 8.
Sam Fender has three nominations for the 2022 BRIT Awards, the joint second highest total for next year’s ceremony. The 42nd awards will take place at the O2 Arena in London on February 8.
As previously announced, the ceremony will see male and female categories dropped, and the introduction of four new genre awards, to be voted on by the British public: Alternative/Rock Act, Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act, Dance Act, and Pop Act.
Four artists lead the way with four nominations each, Adele, Dave, Ed Sheeran, and Little Simz. Fender is joined on three by London-based rapper Central Cee. Fender’s sophomore set Seventeen Going Under is shortlisted for Album of the Year, up against titles by Adele, Dave, Ed Sheeran, and Little Simz. He will contest Artist of the Year with the same four fellow artists, and is also in the shortlist for Alternative/Rock act.
ABBA have a nomination for Best International Group along with BTS, Maneskin, Silk Sonic, and War On Drugs. Elton John and Dua Lipa’s chart-conquering “Cold Heart (Pnau Mix)” is one of 15 tracks listed for Song of the Year. As reported, Holly Humberstone has been named the winner of the BRITs Rising Star award; the Producer and Songwriter of the Year awards will be announced in January.
Some of the new awards have been revived from previous incarnations: the rock trophy was presented as British Rock Act from 2004-2006, British Dance Act ran under that name from 1994-2004, British Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act was known as British Urban Act from 2003-2006 and British Pop/R&B Act was titled British Pop Act, also between 2000 and 2006.
