Mickey Guyton, James Taylor, & More to Honor Joni Mitchell At MusiCares Person of the Year Concert
The annual gala event is set to be held in Los Angeles on January 29.
Ahead of the gala event, MusiCares has announced the complete lineup for the 31st annual MusiCares Person of the Year benefit concert, this year honoring Joni Mitchell. The event is set to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on January 29, two nights before the 64th Grammy Awards. Brandi Carlile and Jon Batiste will serve as artistic directors for the night.
Carlile and Batiste are the first artists to be appointed to the role and will also perform as part of the benefit concert. Also featured on the lineup are Grammy Award-nominees Maggie Rogers, Mickey Guyton, and Black Pumas. Additional appearances include Graham Nash, Herbie Hancock, James Taylor, Leon Bridges, and Pentatonix.
The full lineup will pay tribute to the iconic and impactful music of Joni Mitchell, highlighting the singer’s gift as both a songwriter and performer who has influenced generations of musicians and writers.
“We are crafting a once-in-a-lifetime evening in honor of Joni,” said Laura Segura, Executive Director of MusiCares. “I thank each of these artists for lending their talents to celebrate Joni and her impact on the music community.”
MusiCares, the leading music charity providing music professionals health and human services across a spectrum of needs, have scheduled the Person of the Year tribute benefit to consist of a reception and silent auction which will be followed up by a dinner and wrap with the tribute concert as a grand finale.
Later that week, at the Grammy Awards ceremony, a number of the performing artists will be in the running for a gold trophy of their own. Batiste will arrive as the most nominated artist of what is considered the biggest night in music, leading all nominees with 11 nominations.
The ceremony will be hosted once again by comedian Trevor Noah. The Recording Academy will present the 2022 Grammy Awards on Mon, January 31, on the CBS Television Network and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+ from 8–11:30 p.m. ET / 5–8:30 p.m. PT.
Prior to the telecast, the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater at 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on Grammy.com and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel.
