Sam Fender And Holly Humberstone Team Up For Acoustic ‘Seventeen Going Under’
Fender enlists new BRIT Rising Star winner Holly Humberstone for a gorgeously understated version of his hit single ‘Seventeen Going Under.’
Sam Fender has recruited new BRIT Rising Star winner, Holly Humberstone for a special acoustic version of his single “Seventeen Going Under”.
The original version of the track featured on Fender’s chart-topping second album “Seventeen Going Under” and recently saw its popularity skyrocket after going viral.
It also landed in the Top 10 of the Official UK Singles Chart, giving the North Shields singer-songwriter his first entry in the chart’s upper echelons.
Fender and Humberstone’s new take on “Seventeen Going Under” adds both another level of depth and sensitivity to the track, as well as focuses the attention squarely on those tender, emotionally raw lyrics and the sheer power of two unique, and distinctly individual voices.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac upon the original single’s release, Fender explained the song was about “the darker times but how that sort of adversity is what carves you into an adult and how it affects the person you are and what you stand for.”
“It’s really hard to process what’s going on at that age, that’s why I’m writing about it now because, to be honest, a lot of the stuff that happened when I was 17 and 18, it was a lot of big moments and it wasn’t the easiest time of my like. It took us to my mid-twenties to kind of process that stuff and be able to actually write about it in a way that’s, you know, enjoyable.”
Humberstone is one of British music’s most exciting new names, reflected in her nomination for the 2022 BRITs Rising Star award. She is nominated for the trophy alongside Bree Runway and Lola Young, with the winner to be revealed on Friday (December 10).
Holly now brings her haunting, mellifluous vocal to one of the undisputed songs of the year to cap an extraordinary twelve months for both artists.
Next year, Fender will hit the road for a headline tour across the UK and Ireland, including two dates at London’s SSE Arena Wembley and a pair of hometown shows at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena.
