Revered filmmaker Peter Jackson has shared an exclusive sneak peek of his upcoming documentary The Beatles: Get Back. The five-minute clip of the much-anticipated film is available to fans worldwide on TheBeatles.com and streaming on Disney+.
“We wanted to give the fans of The Beatles all over the world a holiday treat,” says the director, “so we put together this five-minute sneak peek at our upcoming theatrical film The Beatles: Get Back. We hope it will bring a smile to everyone’s faces and some much-needed joy at this difficult time.”
The feature-length film opens in theaters on August 27, 2021. Described as a “unique cinematic experience,” it will take viewers back to the time of The Beatles’ intimate recording sessions of early 1969. It displays the warmth, camaraderie and creative genius of the peerless quartet, and has been compiled and lovingly restored from more than 60 hours of unseen footage filmed in January of that year by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, and more than 150 hours of unheard audio.
The Beatles: Get Back tells the story of how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr plan their first live show for more than two years. It also charts the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs, which were originally intended for release on an accompanying live album. For the first time, it captures in its entirety their famous final live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert in Savile Row, London, and other songs and classic compositions that were featured on their final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.
The film is presented by the Walt Disney Studios in association with Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Productions Ltd. It’s directed by three-time Oscar winner Jackson, who produced it with Clare Olssen (They Shall Not Grow Old) and Jonathan Clyde (Eight Days A Week), with Ken Kamins (The Hobbit trilogy) and Apple Corps’ Jeff Jones (Eight Days A Week) serving as executive producers. The film’s editor is Jabez Olssen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and the music is mixed by Giles Martin (Rocketman) and Sam Okell (Yesterday).
