The companion soundtrack to Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special will feature new interpretations of holiday classics, including performances by Snoop Dogg and Dupri. The album will be available December 4 exclusively on Apple Music, with a wide release on December 11. Single “Oh Santa!” feat. Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson will be available across all platforms on December 4.
The original edition of “Oh Santa!” appeared on Carey’s best-selling 2010 holiday album, Merry Christmas II You, and set a new record on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Songs chart – becoming the first single to hit No.1 within two weeks. The song, which was Carey’s seventh No.1 on that chart, held the top position for four weeks.
2020 has been a celebratory year for Carey, and her enduring body of work. In January, Carey was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, alongside Steve Miller, the Eurythmics, The Neptunes, and The Isley Brothers, among others. In September, meanwhile, she released her best-selling memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.
Most recently, Carey launched a catalog-wide rollout of vinyl reissues, beginning with her 1990 self-titled debut in October. The campaign will conclude in January with her 2014 album, Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse.
Carey – who remains the best-selling female artist of all-time – also released a new retrospective collection, The Rarities, which features previously-unreleased recordings, spanning 1990 through 2020 – all handpicked by the artist herself.
