Billie Eilish Returns With Ethereal New Single ‘My Future’
“When we wrote this song, it was exactly where my head was at – hopeful, excited and a crazy amount of self-reflection and self-growth,” said Eilish.
Today, the five-time Grammy winner Billie Eilish returns with her latest single and official music video, “my future.”
Like many artists, Eilish has been isolating at her home in Los Angeles – with more time and space on her hands – “my future” is the product of a confident young woman, coming into her own, as she contemplates what’s ahead of her, signifying a new chapter for the teen-trailblazer.
“We wrote this at the very beginning of quarantine. It’s a song that’s really really personal and special to me,” shared Eilish in an official statement.
“When we wrote this song, it was exactly where my head was at – hopeful, excited and a craaaazy amount of self-reflection and self-growth. But recently it has also taken on a lot of new meaning in the context of what’s happening in the world now. I hope you can all find meaning in it for yourselves.”
Written and recorded in Los Angeles during lockdown, and produced by her brother and creative collaborator FINNEAS, “my future” is the first new music from the 18-year-old pop phenom since she released her James Bond theme song “No Time To Die” back in February, and the melancholic single, “everything i wanted,” earlier in November.
Accompanying the ethereal new single is a beautifully animated music video, created by Australian artist Andrew Onorato. The Melbourne-based designer is also responsible for designing visuals for Childish Gambino’s “Feels Like Summer,” and Matt Corby and Tash Sultana’s “Talk It Out.”
Eilish made headlines earlier today for becoming the first artist in VMA history to log two Video of the Year nods while still in their teens. Eilish is nominated this year for “everything I wanted,” and was nominated last year for her breakthrough hit, “bad guy.”
It’s been a banner year for the prodigiously talented, singer-songwriter. She took home 5 Grammy Awards, where she won Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Shortly after, she wowed audiences at the 92nd Academy Awards, when she delivered a stirring rendition of The Beatles’ “Yesterday,” alongside her brother FINNEAS.
And right before lockdown, she was ready to embark on her first-ever, sold-out WHERE DO WE GO? world arena tour, only for it to be postponed just days into the North American leg of the tour.
Hopefully, “my future” is just a taste of what’s to come.
