Youtube has announced a new Demi Lovato docuseries is in the works during their digital upfront presentation on Thursday, 25 June. The new four-part series will serve as a follow-up to her 2017 YouTube Originals documentary, Simply Complicated.

The untitled Demi Lovato project will showcase the singer’s personal and professional journey over the last three years. While it’s unclear if the series will touch upon her substance abuse issues in 2018, Lovato was able to recuperate and come back in full force in 2020 including her performance at the Grammys, singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl and released a number of hit singles including, ‘I Love Me’ and the infectious duet with Sam Smith, ‘I’m Ready’.

In addition to the new Lovato docuseries, YouTube has renewed four original projects featuring A-list digital talent including a second season of ‘Instant Influencer With James Charles’, a breakout reality competition hit, hosted by the beauty guru himself, with special guests Paris Hilton and Trixie Mattel.

“We’re continuing to invest [in originals] – and we’ve investing more,” Robert Kyncl, YouTube’s chief business officer, said in an interview. He also mentioned Youtube’s recent announcement to establish a multiyear $100 million fund dedicated to Black creators and artists.

“At YouTube, we believe Black lives matter and we all need to do more to dismantle systemic racism,” wrote Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki in a blog post. “We’re committed to doing better as a platform to centre and amplify Black voices and perspectives.”

As for Lovato, she’s hasn’t let quarantine stop her recent promotions that include a new talk show on Quibi called Pillow Talk and her recent role in Will Ferrell’s Eurovision.

Lovato has also been very vocal during the Black Lives Matter movement. She, along with a number of high-profile artists, signed an open letter aimed at music industry executives to address long-standing racial inequities in the music business as part of the newly formed Black Music Action Coalition. The pop icon will also be joining Pride Month celebrations and will join the all-star line-up of talent for a special Stonewall Day live-stream event that’s scheduled for Friday, 26 June. The Pride Live event will be available to view on Logo Facebook and YouTube channel and joining Lovato will be Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and former President Barack Obama.
