The album features four hours of music, captured during the at-home performances by some of music’s biggest names, including Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Elton John and The Rolling Stones. All proceeds from the streaming of One World: Together at Home The Album will benefit the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

Presented by Global Citizen, the eight-hour One World: Together At Home concert raised nearly $128 million. Viewers were treated to intimate, home performances by a collection of artists that not only spanned multiple genres but also several generations, thanks in part to Lady Gaga, who served as the live-stream’s Creative Director. Gaga kicked off the event with a performance of the standard, ‘Smile’, made famous by Nat King Cole in 1954.

Late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert served as emcees for the event, which aired live across multiple digital platforms and over 60 global networks, including ABC, NBC and CBS in the US.

Highlights from the marathon broadcast included a cover of Bobby Hebb’s 1966 hit ‘Sunny’, from Billie Eilish and Finneas, an uplifting remote duet of Ben E. King’s 1961 classic, ‘Stand By Me’ from Sam Smith and John Legend, and The Rolling Stone’s ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’, which the band members each performed from their homes.

Stevie Wonder, meanwhile, paid tribute to the late Bill Withers with a rendition of ‘Lean On Me’, and Paul McCartney honoured his mother – who was a World War II era-nurse – before performing a soulful version of ‘Lady Madonna’. With his piano set up in his driveway, Elton John played the anthem, ‘I’m Still Standing’.

Another notable appearance came from Taylor Swift, who surprised fans with a brave performance of ballad, ‘Soon You’ll Get Better’, which came as a surprise to fans after the artist shared that the song, off her new album, Lover, brought up a lot of emotions. “I don’t know if I’ll ever play it live,” said Swift in a SiriusXM Town Hall last year. “It’s just really difficult for me. It was hard to write. It’s hard to sing. It’s hard to listen to for me. But sometimes, music is like that. Sometimes it’s not just about stuff that was pleasant to feel.”

In an official statement, Hugh Evans, Co-Founder and CEO of Global Citizen, said, “With the generous support of artists, record labels and the world’s biggest streaming services, One World: Together at Home The Album will continue to generate support for the healthcare and other frontline workers around the world who are helping to save lives. With this album, fans will be able to revisit their favourite performances, while those who may have missed the live event will be able to experience the community created by this historic global event.”
