To mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, a number of eco-conscious artists, politicians and activists will come together for ‘Earth Day Live’, a three-day live-stream that will run through 22-24th April.

Organized by youth climate activists, the star-studded line-up will include musical performances and DJ sets from Questlove, Moby, Talib Kweli, Jason Mraz, Angélique Kidjo, Emily Wells, Aimee Mann, Ted Leo, Jack Johnson, Beverly Bond, Madame Gandhi, Soul Clap and others.

Earth Day Live’s diverse line-up also includes past presidential nominees (Al Gore, John Kerry), politicians (Stacey Abrams, Rep Lauren Underwood), activists (Rev William J Barber II, Bill McKibben, Denise Hayes), actors (Jane Fonda, Matt McGorry), journalists (David Wallace Wells, Sharon Carpenter) and medical professionals (Drs Sweta Chakraborty and Michael Greger), who will lead discussions with leading scientists about the ongoing climate crisis.

“In the midst of a global pandemic, Earth Day Live aims to spur collective action to protect our communities and our planet, through performances, conversations, and training sessions curated by climate activists,” the event’s organisers shared in a statement.

The live-stream will include a discussion on climate change with New York magazine deputy editor and The Uninhabitable Earth author David Wallace Wells and climate psychologist Margaret Klein Salamon.

Each day of the live-stream focuses on a different aspect of the environmental movement. On 22 April, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, participants will display “collective power and unity through community building and storytelling,” while “amplifying the voice of indigenous leaders and youth climate activists,” the event’s website explains.

On 23 April, programming by the Stop the Money Pipeline Coalition will offer a path for economic restructuring that shifts power from polluters and politicians to people and the planet. The final day will drive voter registration and political engagement.

Earth Day Live will be live from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm EST on 22, 23, and 24th April at the event’s official website as well as accessible to watch on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Twitch.
