Margo Price Announces New Album ‘That’s How Rumors Get Started’
Her new single, ‘Twinkle Twinkle’, offers a taste of the Sturgill Simpson-produced LP.
Margo Price has announced her third studio album, That’s How Rumors Get Started, due out 8 May on Loma Vista Recordings.
The 10-track album, which marks the country singer-songwriter’s debut with the indie imprint, was co-produced by acclaimed country artist Sturgill Simpson. Along with her announcement this morning, Price dropped a fiery new single, ‘Twinkle Twinkle’.
In her new blues-rock-forward single – which follows the release of ‘Stone Me’ in January – Price chronicles her turbulent, early days of touring, singing, “I was havin’ a ball till I threw it too far/Playin’ dives tryin’ to stay alive”, adding, “If it don’t break you, it might just make you rich/ You might not get there, and on the way it’s a b__h”. The song, according to this morning’s announcement, was, “inspired by a candid, backstage conversation with Marty Stuart about the tough truths of touring”.
Despite its dark themes, ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ is deliciously catchy – full of distortion-heavy guitar licks and a stomping beat. The video, meanwhile, is a non-stop hit of colourful, vintage visual stimulation, offering a collage-style mash-up of news headlines, photos, psychedelic animation and, of course, a singing Price. Matthew Siskin, the founder and creative director of designedmemory – whose inventive designs can be seen on digital projects for Beyoncé, Alice + Olivia and The Row – directed the video.
That’s How Rumors Get Started, which follows Price’s chart-topping 2017 album All American Made, features an all-star line-up of talent, assembled by Simpson, including guitarist Matt Sweeney (Adele, Iggy Pop), bassist Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, The Who), drummer James Gadson (Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye) and keyboardist Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers). Simpson, as well as the Nashville Friends Gospel Choir, also contribute their vocals to a handful of songs.
Fans can also catch Price’s new material this summer, as she heads out on the road in support of That’s How Rumors Get Started.
