Amy Winehouse, Madness, Soul II Soul Join Camden’s Music Walk Of Fame
The landmarks will add to the existing marker for The Who, unveiled last November.
The Music Walk of Fame in Camden, north London, will unveil new stones on three separate days next week, adding local heroes Amy Winehouse, Madness and Soul II Soul to the existing marker for The Who, unveiled last November.
National network BBC Radio 6 Music will be descending upon Camden town for its Music Festival, which will take place in some of the area’s most famous venues. To coincide, Music Walk of Fame will honour three more of Camden’s most famous residents, beginning next Monday (2 March) with Madness.
Winehouse’s stone will be unveiled on 4 March and Soul II Soul’s on 6 March. All Surprise guest unveilers are promised for each ceremony.
The Winehouse and Soul II Soul unveilings will be followed by “unique and exciting” events inspired by the artists. Next Wednesday, Music Walk of Fame will host a fundraiser for the Amy Winehouse Foundation to assist their work to prevent the misuse of drugs and alcohol among the young. The gathering will take place from 1-4pm at Gabetos Restaurant at the Stables Market, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8AH.
On 6 March, there will be a live performance by the long-running acid jazz band the Brand New Heavies, who are collaborators of Soul II Soul, and will celebrate the latter collective’s contribution to music. Jazzi Q & Aitch B from the original Soul II Soul sound system line-up (run by group frontman Jazzie B) will also be on hand to play Soul II Soul classics with a DJ set.
Music Walk of Fame founding committee member and acclaimed rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky will also be at the events to document them for posterity.

“Camden town has always been a hot bed of culture and music,” say Madness in a statement, “and we had the great privilege to have been given lift off from this great town. Without Camden we would have been nothing so it’s a great honour to be the recipients of the Music Walk of Fame stone. Thank you.”
Mitch & Janis Winehouse, Amy’s parents, note: “We all know how much Amy adored her beloved Camden, so how fitting that her name is now part of the very fabric of the place she loved. To be part of the Music Walk of Fame is such a great honour. We’re absolutely delighted that Amy’s musical legacy is being celebrated in this way.”
Jazzie B says of Soul II Soul’s Music Walk of Fame honour: “It’s great to be recognised for the music we produced and the movement we created, just a stone’s throw from where it all began.”
