Taylor Swift has confirmed the release date for her highly anticipated Netflix documentary Miss Americana, that will debut on the streaming service on 31 January.

The film, directed by Emmy winner Lana Wilson, will make its official debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival on 23 January.

Filmmakers have said that Miss Americana will be a “raw and emotionally revealing look” at the singer “during a transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice”.

News of the documentary first emerged surrounding a dispute about the performing rights around Swift’s catalogue but as Variety reported last month, the rights were cleared “within a timely manner”.

While fans have known for over a month that the film will premiere at Sundance next week, the Netflix wide release date wasn’t confirmed until today.

The documentary gets its title from a recent single ‘Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince’, off Swift’s critically acclaimed and No.1 album, Lover.

Swift is also scheduled to be presented with the Vanguard Award at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on 16 April that recognises the singer’s efforts in creating “music that unites and calls on her massive fan following to speak up and call for change”.

While 2019 was a busy year for Swift, 2020 has even more in store for the pop icon who’s up for a number of Grammy nominations this month including ‘Song Of The Year’ for the title track ‘Lover’, ‘Best Pop Solo Performance’ for ‘You Need To Calm Down’ and ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’ for Lover.

The singer-songwriter will also be headlining Glastonbury this June, taking over the Pyramid Stage on Sunday, 28 June 2020.

Paul McCartney was confirmed as the first headliner for Glastonbury’s 50th anniversary in November. The show will mark his first appearance at the festival since 2004.
