Fresh off releasing her new album Rare, Selena Gomez shows off her piano skills in a new alternative video for the No.1 hit, ‘Lose You To Love Me’.
Like the original video, the alternative visual is also shot in black and white on an iPhone, but this time Gomez is dressed in a stark white dress and is seated at the piano to perform the tune. Director Sophie Muller also helmed the alternative version.
‘Lose You To Love Me’, marked Gomez triumphant return to the spotlight and charts, notching her first No.1 hit. The earnest ballad sees Gomez reclaiming her self-identity, turning a breakup song into a soaring anthem.
The ballad was the lead single off Rare, quickly followed by the dance-pop hit, ‘Look At Her Now. Since dropping on Friday, 10 January, Rare has received glowing reviews.
“Selena Gomez’s Rare is one of the best pop albums in recent memory, opening up a whole new lane for the 27-year-old singer,” writes Variety.
In a recent candid interview with Zane Lowe, Gomez opened up about the difficult road to Rare and getting back in the studio.
“This is four years of my life and I think I’m completely ok with releasing it,” the singer reveals. “There had always been something preventing me or scaring me from doing it and I’m so glad that I followed that gut instinct.”
Rare is Gomez’s first studio effort in four years, following a tumultuous period of public breakups, severe health issues and handling the tabloid press.
“I think the past few years (even decade), I was really hurting and that prevented me from doing a lot more creatively and what I wanted to say,” Gomez said.
When ‘Lose You To Love Me’ came out, many fans speculated it was about the singer’s longterm relationship with Justin Bieber. But according to Gomez, she didn’t want to get into specifics on the album since audiences would “know where the inspiration came from.”
She continued, “It wasn’t in a vindictive way. It was simply like, ‘Okay, I actually have my part to say,’ and I waited. I wasn’t just irrationally doing something.”
The singer also dropped an official music video for her third single and the title track from the album ‘Rare’.
