All three stars were widely known and loved via the long-running television show Hee Haw, but each of them also made a huge mark with their recordings. Grand Ole Opry member Clark (1933–2018) amassed 52 country chart entries between 1963 and 1989 including such top ten hits as ‘Yesterday, When I Was Young,’ ‘Thank God and Greyhound’ and 1973’s No. 1 hit ‘Come Live With Me,’ all of which are on the Greatest Hits disc.

Clark was a frequent guest host for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show and his stock increased immeasurably when he became co-host of the variety show Hee Haw in 1969. He played regularly to packed theatres both in the US and internationally, 18 sellout shows in the former USSR. He won recognition from the Grammys and Country Music Awards and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Owens (1926–2006) is renowned as one of the creators of the electric “Bakersfield Sound.” Another Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, he racked up no fewer than 21 No. 1 country hits (many of them with his band, the Buckaroos) between 1963 and 1988 and was an influence on everyone from The Beatles, who covered his first chart-topper, ‘Act Naturally,’ to Gram Parsons. He joined Clark as co-host of Hee Haw in 1969.

In 1968, at the height of his success, Owens was introduced to the Eugene, Oregon-born singer Susan Raye. They began collaborating in 1968 and Raye soon joined him not only on record but as a regular performer on Hee Haw. The duo released four studio albums together in the early 1970s and enjoyed such hits as ‘We’re Gonna Get Together,’ ‘Togetherness’ and ‘The Great White Horse,’ all of them included on The Very Best of Buck Owens & Susan Raye.

As a solo artist, Raye had several more top ten country singles including 1970’s ‘L.A. International Airport,’ which also won pop attention, as well as ‘Pitty, Pitty, Patter,’ ‘(I’ve Got A) Happy Heart’ and ‘Willy Jones,’ all on the 16 Greatest Hits collection. Raye had a career tally of seven top ten hits and 19 top 40 hits and was nominated for five Academy of Country Music Awards before retiring from recording in the mid-1980s.
