Katy Perry To Perform at Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup Final
The star will perform during both the pre-game show and the post-match celebration on 8 March 2020 – also International Women’s Day.
Katy Perry is all set to perform at the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the biennial tournament of world cricket’s most popular format.
The star will perform during both the pre-game show and the post-match celebration on 8 March 2020 on the same day marking International Women’s Day.
“I’m all about celebrating equality and the achievements of women, which naturally happens on a global scale on International Women’s Day. It’s no coincidence that I said yes to performing live at the women’s final on this day,” Perry said in a statement.
“I hope to bring a unifying, electric performance playing some of my most empowering songs for the best female cricketers on the planet and some of my greatest fans, as we all unite to support gender equality and empower people to achieve everything that they desire.”
When she takes the field at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia, Perry could be a part of history. Organizers anticipate the match will set a new world record for attendance at a women’s sporting fixture. The current record crowd of 90,185 was set at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Pasadena, California.
The Melbourne Cricket ground can go way over the top. The ground has a capacity of 100,000 and a record 121,000-plus sports fans have attended Aussie rules football matches at the historic site, which was built in 1853 and hosted the 1956 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.
Eminem holds the Melbourne Cricket Ground record for a concert, with 80,708 fans at a ‘Rapture’ tour date there earlier in the year.
Perry last performed Down Under on her 14-date ‘Witness’ arena tour in July and August 2018. On this trip, the MCG is her only stop.
As uDiscover Music previously reported, the pop superstar’s latest single ‘Harleys in Hawaii’ dropped last month.
