Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul Forced To Cancel Autumn Tour Dates

The decision was taken on doctor’s advice because of Van Zandt’s sinusitis condition, and means that the band will now play only in Boston and New York City in November.

Stevie Van Zandt has announced that, after being forced to pull out of several dates on his Summer Of Sorcery Tour with the Disciples of Soul, they have now cancelled all but two dates on the itinerary.

The decision was taken on doctor’s advice because of Van Zandt’s sinusitis condition, and means that the band will now play only their shows in Boston and New York City in November. The New York show will be filmed for a future live DVD and album release, for which details will be announced in due course.

“I thought I could shake this sinusitis, but it doesn’t seem to be going away,” says Van Zandt. “I’ve never canceled shows before. I feel terrible about this, but my doctors are telling me there’s just no way to continue right now. We were really looking forward to continuing this 90-show tour around the world. We want to thank the fans for all of their support. I really hope we can make up these dates someday somehow.”

The band were in the midst of the Summer Of Sorcery Tour of North America, named after their current album of the same name. They will now play only the shows at the Chevalier Theatre in Medford, Massachusetts (just north of Boston) on 2 November and at New York’s Beacon Theatre on 6 November.

Last month, the extensive international leg of the tour visited the UK, where Louder Than War’s Sophie Sparham said of the show at the 02 Ritz in Manchester: “Everything about Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul is flamboyant, fabulous and unreservedly over the top. From their beautiful psychedelic outfits to their flawless showmanship to the fact that they’re a fifteen-piece band.

“The Disciples are made up of a five-piece horn section, drummer, bass player, bongo and percussionist, two keyboard players, three backing singers and a guitarist – not forgetting the charismatic Stevie Van Zandt fronting the whole outfit.”

Summer Of Sorcery is out now, and can be bought here.

That’s a drag, man. I saw Little Steven last fall and his show was fun. Seen him in Bruce’s E Street Band too and hoped to see him with his Disciples of Soul again this October. I’ll just have to listen to the 3 CD live set I bought at the show instead. Get well and rested, Little Steven.
