New Kurt Cobain Clothing Collection ‘Kurt Was Here’ Now Available
Each item in the collection was curated and designed under the creative direction of Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
Kurt Cobain’s artwork is ready to wear. On Monday, 9 September, Live Nation Merchandise and The End of Music, LLC – the business entity behind Cobain’s publicity rights – unveiled the debut of a new clothing collection called Kurt Was Here, featuring the late Nirvana frontman’s hand-written journal entries, sketches, paintings and drawings.
Each item in the collection was curated and designed under the creative direction of Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
Available at Barneys NY, Selfridges UK and KurtCobainShop.com from today, the collection will also include a book and limited edition art prints (the latter to be made available later this year) based entirely on Cobain’s original artwork. Additional products and retail partners are expected to be announced in the coming months.
Those behind the collection state that Cobain’s artwork has not been edited on the garments, noting that “all varying line weights were not adjusted so the customer can experience the fluidity and potent subject matter as it was intended.”
A portion of all online sales from Kurt Was Here will be donated to The Jed Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the emotional health of and preventing suicide among teens and young adults. Prices for items in the collection range from $39 from a T-shirt to $69 for a hoodie. To check out the collection, visit the official website.
Though Cobain’s image has been used on merchandise for many years since his death, Kurt Was Here is the first official collection to use his paintings, drawings, journal entries, and sculptures.
Elsewhere in Nirvana news, official footage from Nirvana’s 1993 Seattle show, which featured on their Live And Loud release, has been uploaded to the band’s YouTube channel for the first time.
The influential Pacific North-West band performed at Seattle’s Pier 48 on 13 December 1993 while on tour in support of In Utero. The show featured Nirvana’s final live line-up of Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear.
The show was broadcast on MTV and later released on DVD in 2013, featuring rehearsal footage and more live clips from the ‘In Utero’ tour. The arrival of the footage on YouTube, though, is the first time fans have been able to stream the performance online for free.
Live And Loud is out now and can be bought here.
