Eric Clapton To Feature On Sheryl Crow’s George Harrison Remake
Clapton played on the original ‘Beware Of Darkness,’ on his friend’s classic ‘All Things Must Pass’ album.
Eric Clapton has revisited a track on which he featured from his friend George Harrison’s classic All Things Must Pass album. Clapton collaborates on Sheryl Crow’s new version of the enduring ‘Beware Of Darkness’ from her upcoming, all-star Threads album. The new interpretation also features in-demand Grammy-winner Brandi Carlile, who as reported is also the co-producer of the upcoming album by country star Tanya Tucker.
Threads features several other tracks that have been unveiled in recent weeks, including the most recent, ‘Still The Good Old Days,’ featuring Joe Walsh. In addition to other notables whose involvement we’ve already observed, such as Keith Richards, Vince Gill, St. Vincent and Maren Morris, the album will include contributions from James Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Chuck D, Gary Clark Jr and Andra Day.
Harrison’s original ‘Beware Of Darkness’ emerged as part of All Things Must Pass when the triple LP was released in November 1970. It had Clapton on lead guitar, Ringo Starr on drums, Gary Wright on organ and Derek and the Dominos’ Bobby Whitlock on piano and Carl Radle on bass.
The recording was widely praised as one of the album’s most outstanding songs. Harrison went on to perform it, sharing lead vocals with Leon Russell, at the fundraising Concert For Bangladesh in 1971. Russell himself did the song on his Leon Russell and the Shelter People album.
Among many later covers, including those by Marianne Faithfull in 1985 and Joe Cocker in 1997, Clapton led a version of it at the Concert For George that followed Harrison’s death, in 2002.
Ann Wilson of Heart led a rendition of ‘Beware Of Darkness’ at George Fest — A Night To Celebrate The Music Of George Harrison. The concert took place at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles in 2014 and was released on record in 2016.
