Winehouse Documentary Arrives In July
‘Amy,’ the new documentary about the life and times of Amy Winehouse, is set to be released in the UK on July 3. Coming up to the fourth anniversary of the singer’s death at the age of 27, the film, first announced in 2013, is directed by Asif Kapadia. The British director made the BAFTA Award-winning ‘Senna’ documentary, about the late racing driver Ayrton Senna.
The Winehouse film, for which the above poster was unveiled yesterday (Wednesday), will be distributed in the UK by Altitude, and will include previously unseen footage and unheard tracks. Universal Music UK chairman and CEO David Joseph was quoted last month in Billboard as saying: “About two years ago we decided to make a movie about [Amy], her career and her life.
“It’s a very complicated and tender movie. It tackles lots of things about family and media, fame, addiction, but most importantly, it captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius.”
A life-size statue of the British singer was unveiled in her beloved Camden district of London last September, on what would have been her 31st birthday.
