Imagine Dragons Score First UK No. 1 Album
Imagine Dragons have scored their first UK No. 1 album with ‘Smoke + Mirrors.’ The news was confirmed as the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data was published on Sunday evening (22).
The Interscope release, produced by the Las Vegas rock band themselves with British hip-hop producer Alex Da Kid, debuted at No. 1 to demote Sam Smith’s Capitol album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ to runner-up spot. ‘Smoke + Mirrors’ is awaiting its first US chart position, but has already reached No. 4 in both Australia and New Zealand, and No. 6 in Ireland.
With the chart week ending today, the new album is in the running for the No. 1 spot in the US this week, reports Billboard. Its main rival is the current chart-topper, Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,’ which debuted at the top on the current chart, preventing the ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ soundtrack from a No. 1 start. The new Billboard chart will be published on Wednesday (25).
‘Smoke + Mirrors’ contains the single ‘I Bet My Life,’ which climbs 63-54 in its 15th week on the current Hot 100, having previously peaked at No. 53. It entered the UK sales chart at No. 27 last Sunday (15).
Imagine Dragons’ first album, 2012’s ‘Night Visions,’ reached No. 2 in both the UK and the US. It has sold 2.4 million copies in America to date, and has been on the chart every week since its debut, 128 weeks ago.
