BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ Smashes More YouTube, iTunes Records
The K-Pop quartet’s song is the first by a girl group to reach No. 1 on iTunes in the US since Destiny’s Child’s’ ‘Lose My Breath’ in 2004.
BLACKPINK’s video for ‘Kill This Love’ has broken more records, after becoming the fastest music video to surpass 100 million YouTube views, in less than three days. As also previously reported, the clip, directed by Hyun Seung Seo, had made the biggest music video debut in YouTube history, with more than 56.7 million views in its first 24 hours.
‘Kill This Love’ is the title song from the K-Pop quartet’s new EP, which was released on 5 April on YG Entertainment/Interscope and has reached No. 1 on iTunes in 37 countries. The track is also on course to enter the Official Charts Company’s UK singles chart when the new countdown is unveiled on Friday (12).
The track thus also claims a place in iTunes history: it’s the first song by a girl group to reach No. 1 on iTunes in the US since Destiny’s Child’s’ ‘Lose My Breath,’ released in September 2004. It’s also the first-ever song by a Korean girl group to achieve a No. 1 ranking on the all-genre US iTunes chart. The group already held the record for the biggest YouTube Premiere event since that feature was launched by YouTube in 2018.
BLACKPINK are set to become K-Pop’s first girl group ever to play at Coachella on Friday, as part of the North American leg of their world tour. The group will follow their soldout show at the Forum in Los Angeles on 17 April by making their debut the following night on The Late Late Show With James Corden.
