Robert Glasper Confirmed As Artist In Residence For 2019 North Sea Jazz Festival
Celebrated globally for reintroducing jazz to new audiences and upending traditionalist assumptions, Glasper will showcase the full range of his talents across the weekend.
The North Sea Jazz Festival organisers have confirmed that their composer, producer and pianist Robert Glasper is to be the artist in residence at this year’s festival at the Ahoy Centre in Rotterdam from 12 to 14 July.
Celebrated globally for reintroducing jazz to new audiences and upending traditionalist assumptions, Glasper will showcase the full range of his talents across the weekend through his Robert Glasper Group featuring hip-hop heavyweight Yasiin Bey (Friday), his favourite acoustic trio DJ Jahi Sundance (Saturday) and in Everything’s Beautiful, a tribute to Miles Davis featuring soul vocalist Bilal (Sunday).
Having previously announced the likes of Chance The Rapper, Janelle Monáe, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Anita Baker, Macy Gray, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Kamasi Washington, H.E.R., The Internet, Rag’n’Bone Man, Masego and Toto, additional contemporaries confirmed for this year’s bill include highly celebrated leftfield pop-meets-RnB producer Blood Orange, vocalist and saxophonist Braxton Cook, acclaimed soul singer Curtis Harding, ethereal trio Mammal Hands, British tuba powerhouse Theon Cross, hotly-tipped US vibraphonist Joel Ross, neo-soul singer Ady Suleiman and psychedelic soul duo Feng Suave.
