Surf’s Up For Seasick Steve
Seasick Steve will return with a new album and tour in the early part of 2015. ‘Sonic Soul Surfer’ will be released by Caroline International on March 23, and the great guitarist has announced a UK tour for April to accompany it.
‘Sonic Soul Surfer’ is Steve’s seventh studio album and is being acclaimed by those who’ve already heard it as perhaps the most adventurous record he’s ever made. Written and produced by the man himself, it was recorded in the front room of his small farm, with longtime drummer Dan Magnusson encouraging Steve’s usual raw, direct sound, and the addition of some guest musicians on certain tracks.
Luther Dickinson from North Mississippi All Stars plays slide guitar on two songs, while Georgina Leach is on fiddle and Ben Miller plays jaw harp on the album’s lead song, ‘Summertime Boy.’ “The whole record is mostly me and Dan sitting there drinking and playing,” says Steve. “There ain’t a whole lot of producing going on! But I know what I’m doing and I know what I want.”
Steve is playing some European shows this side of Christmas, with one at the 229 Club in London on December 9 to be followed by dates in Holland and France. He then mounts his first full UK tour for four years next spring, with the following dates:
