McCartney’s Exclusive Free Download
Next week sees the long-awaited appearance of the latest two deluxe reissues in the Grammy-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection, 1975’s ‘Venus and Mars’ and the following year’s ‘At The Speed Of Sound.’ To celebrate the imminent release, Paul has unveiled a free download of the ‘Venus and Mars’ track ‘Letting Go’ — but in an extended version that doesn’t appear on the reissue, and is only available via his website, here.
The reissues are out in the UK and internationally on Monday, November 3, and the following day in North America, in a variety of physical and digital formats. The powerful, horn-laden, mid-tempo ‘Letting Go’ was the second single from ‘Venus and Mars’ and the follow-up to the top ten hit ‘Listen To What The Man Said.’ The newly-available, extended version of the song was given its worldwide radio premiere on Lauren Laverne’s programme on BBC 6 Music yesterday (28).
Meanwhile, McCartney completes his North American dates on the ‘Out There’ tour tomorrow (30) at the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina. He and his band are then back on the road to play in Vitória, Brazil on November 10, the first of five dates in that country during the month.
Last Thursday, at the behest of Billy Collins, two-term US poet laureate and senior distinguished fellow at the Winter Park Institute, Paul spoke to several hundred students at Knowles Memorial Chapel on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. “I tell students all the time, ‘Look, I don’t know how to do this,’” he said. “Every time I approach a song, there’s no rules. Sometimes the music comes first, sometimes the words.
