The Who have announced details of a huge show at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium and revealed that Kaiser Chiefs and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder will be providing support.

The rock legends shared a cryptic video on Twitter over the weekend with ‘Baba O’Riley’ playing in the background as snippets of their legendary career roll out. They then shared another clip with outside shot of Wembley Stadium. In the video, a line from ‘My Generation’ flashes up on a venue banner screen and The Who’s iconic target bullseyes are displayed either side.

Now the band have confirmed that they’ll be playing at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, 6 July with special guests, Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder and Kaiser Chiefs. You can visit the band’s official website for further details on how to grab tickets.

With a US tour set to begin in the spring, some fans have speculated that the announcement could be linked to the 40th anniversary of Quadrophenia, The Who’s seminal film which chronicled the ’60s clashes between Mods and Rockers on Brighton Beach.

Frontman Roger Daltrey also recently confirmed that The Who will release a new album later this year, their first of original material since 2006’s Endless Wire.

When asked to describe what fans can expect from the new record, Pete Townshend replied: “Dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang.”

“They’re all great songs. But sometimes I hear them and I think, ‘I can’t add anything to this to make my job as singer worthy of doing anything better than what Pete [Townshend] has already done”, added Roger Daltrey.

“There’s at least five or six I can lay into and I’m sure they’ll come out incredible. Now that I’m healed up, I’m going to spend time getting into them.”

As uDiscover Music previously reported, The Who have already announced their ‘Moving On!’ tour of North America for 2019, which is set to kick off in Grand Rapids, MI, on 7 May.
