Tom Chaplin Rides ‘The Wave’
Tom Chaplin of Keane has made a top three start in the UK with his first solo album for Island, The Wave — and has now confirmed a 14-date tour for May 2017 to follow his current, intimate sellout dates.
The album, recorded in Pasadena, California and London, was produced by Matt Hales (known for his own Aqualung project and other productions for such artists as Lianne La Havas. It made a confident debut on the UK chart last Friday (21) at No. 3, after a raft of rave reviews. It also opened in the top 40 in Belgium and Holland.
The Sunday Times Culture section called The Wave “incredibly beautiful and affecting” and the Telegraph said it was “ the most gorgeous, anthemic, uplifting music of Chaplin’s career.” The Sun newspaper, Q and Mojo magazines all gave it four stars.
Chaplin’s current British dates with his band (Sebastian Sternberg, Rosie Langley, Tobie Tripp and Beau Holland) continue until 31 October, after which he has November gigs in Belgium and Holland. Next spring, he’ll play 14 shows across the UK including one at the London Palladium on 17 May. Here’s a short trailer:
