Third Time’s A Charm For Della Mae
Boston-bred, Nashville-based female Americana quartet Della Mae will be back with their third album, a self-titled set, on Rounder on May 11, and a day later in North America. The record has been produced by Grammy-winning Jaquire King, who produced Norah Jones’ ‘The Fall’ and was the co-producer of Kings of Leon’s ‘Only By The Night.’
Della Mae, who formed in 2009, were themselves Grammy-nominated for their second album ‘This World Oft Can Be’ during an eventful 2014. They played over 150 shows in 15 countries during the course of the year, including trips to Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Sweden.
The new album is said to have “an emphasis on the groove,” and includes their own material alongside covers of the Rolling Stones’ ‘No Expectations’ and the Low Anthem’s ‘To Ohio.’ A free download of the lead track ‘Boston Town’ is available for free at the group’s website when you sign up for email updates.
Della Mae’s extensive live itinerary over the next couple of months includes three performances this week at SXSW in Austin, Texas. They then begin their American tour proper in Fort Worth next Monday (23), with dates continuing until June 6, followed by appearances at the Grey Fox Festival in Oak Hill, New York, on July 16 and 17. The band’s line-up is Celia Woodsmith (vocals, guitar); Kimber Ludiker (fiddle, vocals); Jenni Lyn Gardner (mandolin, vocals) and Courtney Hartman (guitar, banjo, vocals).
