Free Love will be released on September 25 through Loma Vista and is a follow-up to 2017’s What Now. In a statement, Sylvan Esso explained the inspiration behind the forthcoming LP.

“It’s a record about being increasingly terrified of the world around you and looking inward to remember all the times when loving other people seemed so easy, so that you can find your way back to that place,” the band said.

“At the heart of Sylvan Esso is this really fun argument,” Amelia Meath added. “Nick wants things to sound unsettling, but I want you to take your shirt off and dance. We’re trying to make pop songs that aren’t on the radio, because they’re too weird. It’s a pop band, but we’re talking about complicated emotions.”

‘Ferris Wheel’ is the second track to be lifted from the forthcoming album, following from the intriguing, 90-second “What If”, which the duo shared last weekend.

Back in April, Sylvan Esso released a concert film, WITH, which featured footage from their 2019 tour. A corresponding live album was subsequently released on streaming services. In May, the group also performed a socially-distanced Tiny Desk concert, performing the tracks ‘Die Young’, ‘Rewind’ and ‘Radio’.

Amelia Meath (formerly of Mountain Man) and Nick Sanborn (Megafaun, Made Of Oak) formed Sylvan Esso in 2013. They made their debut with the single “Hey Mami” and released their eponymous debut album on Partisan Records on May 12, 2014, which reached No. 39 on the Billboard 200. They released their second album What Now on April 28, 2017, with the album going on to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

Free Love includes the following tracks:

‘What If’
‘Frequency’
‘Ring’
‘Ferris Wheel’
‘Train’
‘Free’
‘Numb’
‘Runaway’
‘Rooftop’
‘Make It Easy’
