Norah Jones Gets Spirited On New Song ‘Staring At The Wall’
The track will feature on the musician’s upcoming album, ‘Visions’
Norah Jones has returned with a vibrant new song, “Staring At The Wall,” ahead of the release of her next record.
The nine-time Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and pianist will share her ninth solo studio album Visions on March 8, via Blue Note Records.
“Staring At The Wall” was co-written by Jones and producer and multi-instrumentalist Leon Michels, and finds the star needing escape. “Walk in the room, staring at the wall/And I wonder what I came in for all,” she sings. “Need to travel out of my own brain/Hard to get in rhythm with this pain.”
“This is one of my favorites,” Jones said of the song. “It was kind of a left turn from everything else on the album. It’s the first time I played guitar with Leon, we were just trying to come up with something different. I got on guitar and he got on drums and it just took off. It’s just so fun to play music sometimes, and I feel like on this album there were a lot of those times. He had a really cool guitar sound going for me so it just felt good.”
“Staring At The Wall” arrives with the release of a music video that captures Jones and Michels in the studio, playing the track with a sense of joy and fun. Over the scenes from the studio, Jones’ handwritten lyrics highlight the song’s sentiments.
The star previewed Visions in January with its first single, “Running.” “The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep, and ‘Running’ was one of them where you’re half asleep and kind of jolted awake,” she explained.
“We did most of the songs in the same way where I was at the piano or on guitar and Leon was playing drums and we were just jamming on stuff. I like the rawness between me and Leon, the way it sounds kind of garage-y but also kind of soulful, because that’s where he’s coming from, but also not overly perfected.”
Jones will take the album on the road across the US this spring, kicking off in Boston, MA on May 6. For full dates and to purchase tickets, visit her official website.
