BTS To Auction Signed Microphones For MusiCares Charity
Julien’s Auctions, who are conducting the sale, say that the microphones are expected to sell for $10,000-$20,000.
K-pop superstars BTS will have seven signed microphones used on their Love Yourself tour auctioned in January during Grammy Awards week. Julien’s Auctions, who are conducting the sale, say that they’re expected to sell for $10,000-$20,000.
The mics are part of the 30th Anniversary Person of the Year Online Charity Auction for the Recording Academy’s charity MusiCares. The online auction deadline is 24 January, and advance bidding began today (27) at www.julienslive.com with a starting price of $5,000. At deadline, two bids of $7,000 each had been received.
The seven custom silver-toned Shure microphones, one for each member of the group, are signed the respective members in black marker: “RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook.” BTS used the mics when the Love Yourself tour played Citi Field in New York City on 6 October last year. They’re housed in a custom velvet-lined black case with “BTS” on the front.
“It is our pleasure to participate in 2020 MusiCares Person of the Year by donating seven of our customised microphones that have helped push our music beyond linguistic and regional barriers,” say the members of BTS. “Through this donation, we hope people can remember our genuine and heartfelt message that we always have strived to deliver: “LOVE YOURSELF: SPEAK YOURSELF.”
Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions, says: “If you own something like this, signed by each member, that’s highly collectible and in years to come will very likely continue to appreciate in value.”
Other items in the MusiCares auction include guitars signed by Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Dave Grohl and Pete Townshend among others. The auction will take place two days before the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
On the same night, Aerosmith will be celebrated as the MusiCares group of the year to mark the band’s musical and charitable contributions on their 50th anniversary. Frontman Steven Tyler will auction some of his signature scarves and a microphone stand, while guitarist Joe Perry is auctioning a signed Joe Perry Gibson Les Paul Signature guitar. Its pre-sale estimate is $5,000-$10,000.
