Australian favourites 5 Seconds Of Summer could be heading for the top of the American album chart, reports Billboard. The band’s self-titled debut album was on course for sales of somewhere around 250,000 in the sales week that ended yesterday (July 27).

The album entered the UK charts at No. 2 earlier in July and has stayed in the top ten since, this week moving back up 9-8. It debuted at No. 1 not only in Australia and New Zealand but in Holland, Denmark and Belgium.

5 Seconds Of Summer’s ‘She Looks So Perfect,’ released as an EP in the States, sold 143,000 copies in its first week for a No. 2 debut, according to Nielsen SoundScan data. As a single, the track topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Ireland.

If the album makes it to the US summit, it would become the first by an act Australian act to top The Billboard 200 since AC/DC’s ‘Black Ice’ in 2008. We’ll know when the new Billboard charts are published later this week.
