Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story (Taylor’s Version)’ Outperforms Original

Following the release of “Love Story (Taylor’s Version),” Taylor Swift’s re-recorded version is now outperforming the original song from her 2008 album Fearless.

Released last Friday, the track earned 5.8 million on-demand streams (audio and lyric video combined) in the US that day and was downloaded 10,000 times in 24 hours, reports Billboard.

Re-recordings of tracks or albums are reported separately from their originals, with independent chart histories for each version. So, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” will chart separately from Swift’s original 2008 recordings of the album and song.

The original edition of “Love Story” was a breakout hit for the singer-songwriter and propelled her to international fame. By comparison, the original has sold 6.13 million downloads since it was released 12 years ago.

The news comes after Swift announced on February 11 that she would be reworking her debut album, Fearless on Good Morning America last week, starting with “Love Story.”  Back in  2019, the singer-songwriter revealed she had plans to re-record her first six albums – following the fallout around the acquisition of her master recordings.

“This process has been more fulfilling and emotional than I could’ve imagined and has made me more determined to re-record all of my music,” said the singer in a statement on social media.

“When I think back on the ‘Fearless’ album and all that you turned it into, a completely involuntary smile creeps across my face. This was the musical era in which so many inside jokes were created between us, so many hugs exchanged, and hands touched, so many unbreakable bonds formed. So before I say anything else, let me just say that it was a real honor to get to be a teenager alongside you.”

Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is set for release on April 9 and is up for pre-order in several editions, includes new recordings of six tracks she wrote for the album that were never released.
