The Rolling Stones’ ‘Havana Moon‘ Concert Film Heads To Drive-Ins
Filmed in Havana in 2016, it was the largest open-air rock concert in Cuba following a decades-long ban on revolutionary music.
The Rolling Stones’ history-making Havana Moon concert in Cuba is heading to drive-in movie theatres this summer.
Filmed in Havana in 2016, it was the largest open-air rock concert in Cuba following a decades-long ban on the genre and saw 1.2 million Stones fans gather at the Coliseo De La Ciudad Deportiva for a two-hour concert.
The screenings will be available across the US and Canada beginning 10 July through the band’s partnership with CineLife Entertainment and will closely adhere to specific state reopening guidelines for COVID-19.
The Havana Moon concert took place just five days after former US President Barack Obama became the first US president to visit Cuba in 88 years.
This film, directed by Paul Dugdale and produced by Simon Fisher previously had a one-night international theatre premiere, and debuted in the US on STARZ.
The film documents of the Stones’ first-ever show in Cuba, and sees the rock gods pull out a slew of classic hits, including ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’, ‘Gimme Shelter’ and ‘Sympathy For The Devil’.
Director Paul Dugdale stated, “I’m so thrilled that Havana Moon has found its way back onto the big screen, particularly during such a strange time for live music. The Rolling Stones concert was the first of its kind in Havana, and I hope the unprecedented absence of live music during the COVID-19 crisis means this film brings almost as much elation and joy to those watching it now through CineLife as it did the people of Havana back on that special night. Turn it up loud!”
“We think this is the perfect opportunity to bring the Rolling Stones to drive-in theatres everywhere for the first time ever. The Rolling Stones are an iconic band and drive-in theatres will provide a unique experience for audiences everywhere. We couldn’t be more thrilled to launch this new film this summer, as we look towards returning to theatres,” said CineLife Entertainment’s Executive Vice President, Bernadette McCabe.
